FISHING
The two fishing days will be dedicated to MARKING AND RELEASE OF BITCHES (Blue Marlin, White Marlin and Spearfish) exclusively.
No marlin may be brought into port for weighing and no other species will score.
QUALIFYING FISH:
Blue marlin: 500 points
White marlin, spearfish, or swordfish: 100 points.
In the case of the second and subsequent catches, the boat in question must contact tournament control or the bridge boats, to request the password for the photograph or video proving the catch.
The password is the element that will give validity to the mentioned photo or video. In case of not being able to establish communication you can use another boat to serve as a link or bridge.
AREA AND TYPES OF FISHING
The fishing area is free, and the limitations imposed by each vessel’s license or permit must be respected, as well as the distances from the coast and the general rules applicable to existing marine reserves. Under all circumstances, the Chinijo archipelago marine reserve area is excluded for all participants.
The fishing method will comprise trolling, using artificial lures or dead bait rigged exclusively with circle hooks (J-hooks within bait are forbidden). There is no limitation of anglers or rods per boat and the IGFA rules will be applied, bearing in mind that only one single angler will be involved in the fishing from start to finish.
CATCH CERTIFICATION
For the certification of released catches, photographic or video proof of the catch with the password indicated by control or bridge boats, visible, will be required to demonstrate the catch and release to be certified.
Digital cameras or telephones may be used to take photographic or video evidence, which must be handed over to the weighing judge upon arrival at port for verification. The video sequences may not have any cuts or signs of tampering.
The images should be taken, preferably, with the Marlin held by the bill, or “bichero shot” with the nylon inside the reel and the rod, with only the “leader” or bass line outside the rod.
In order to facilitate the validation work, without generating doubts, it is recommended to take several images of the weevil on the fins, of the eye, as well as of the whole body.
Images showing mutilations on the fish caused by bicheros, propellers or other parts of the boat, sharks, etc. will not be admitted. It is also reminded that in order to certify a catch, at no time may be used the boathooks or any other instrument to approach the fish. If in the tests there is presence or sign of use of the bichero, the catch will be disqualified. (It is allowed to use a beak holder).
Photographs, videos, files or cards must be submitted to the weigh-in judge for certification of catches released at the end of each fishing day. Please
have the necessary cables or connections to import the files to the juror’s computer.
The jury reserves the right to consider such images as valid.
Photographs, videos and cards for certification will not be accepted after 19:00 h. Boats with files to certify must be inside the port at 19:00 h at the latest.
The jury may request any boat that has made a catch, the equipment used, in order to verify that it complies with the rules of the tournament (line strength, leader measurement, hook assembly, etc.). Failure to comply with this requirement may result in disqualification of the catch.
COMMUNICATION
Before leaving the Port you will communicate with the tournament control on VHF channel 72. All participating boats are reminded to comply with the Port rules and not to exceed the established speed limit. Communications will be made to Tournament Control or to the bridge boats. Bridge boats to establish communication with the captaincy will be communicated at the skippers meeting.
It is necessary to communicate with control:
- at the time of the bite;
- when the fish has been caught
- and when it is released or lost.
DISTANCE BETWEEN SHIPS
